read once that he’s the poet laureate of soul.. buhlee dat! if you can find his 1st lp, simply entitled ‘SMOKEY’ (cuz.. i mean, if your name’s smokey.. what else are you gonna call your first solo album? right??), DO IT. pick it up. it’s the jam..willie hutch produced & arranged it. and what about this band? tight & in the pocket. so much restraint. smokey looks a little smoked too.. dunno. maybe.
